Breakout is one of the all-time classic arcade games, and the format translates very well to mobile platforms, making for a great way to kill some time on the bus or train. Attack Breaker is one of a number of clones of the game for Java-based phones and it's certainly one of the biggest, offering more than 2,000 levels of brick-busting gameplay. The object of the game is to bash as many colored blocks as you can using your paddle. It's as fun and engrossing as it's ever been, and each level is significantly different from the last, with different patterns of bricks, different brick behaviors and a range of cool power-ups which can be good or bad. For instance, they may give you extra balls, make your paddle bigger, or make it smaller. The great thing about Attack Breaker is the sheer amount of stats it records about your games, keeping a running total of everything from the number of balls you've lost to the number of power-ups collected, and even a breakdown of the colors of balls that you've broken throughout time. On the downside, the graphics and sound aren't that great. The blocks are crudely designed and the tinkly sound effects and music are at least a couple of octaves higher than my acceptable level of annoyingness. Moreover, the game is sponsored by ads, which auto-load via your Internet connection at the start, so if you're not on a payment plan you should be careful about how often you play this one. Breakout is always fun and addictive but aside from a whopping number of levels, Attack Breaker brings nothing new to the genre.
